Nigeria pulls out of 90 international organisations
« on: September 27, 2017, 09:53:15 PM »
In order to maximise its scarce resources and at the same time be responsible in the comity of nations, Nigeria is set to pull out of about 90 international organisations.

This disclosure was made by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Why this matters: According to Adeosun, Nigeria spends $70 million every year as a member of 310 international organizations, yet the country had not been entirely faithful in its obligations to these bodies. Hence the need to review the nation’s membership of the organisations.

What’s next?: Adeosun stated that a committee has been set up to consider the organisations the country was exiting from and submit its report within two weeks. Subsequently, priority will be given to those organisations in which the country will retain membership.
