Title: For the first time ever, there are more Rivers senators from the APC than PDP

In the 2015 general elections, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) on all fronts in Rivers state to emerge the ruling party in the oil-rich state. The party produced the governor, the majority of state assembly lawmakers, Reps and Senators.

To put things in context, at the time Preesident Muhammadu Buhari submitted names of ministerial nominees to the senate for screening in 2015, all Rivers senators belonged to the PDP. Even after some elections were annulled by the court and re-run polls ordered by the courts, the PDP still came out on top with two senators to the APC’s one.

On Wednesday however, the APC gained one over the PDP with the swearing in of Senator Andrew Uchendu by the Senate President after his victory at the Appeal Court.

Uchendu, who is representing Rivers East Senatorial District, was declared the winner of the seat after the Court of Appeal, in August, sacked PDP’s George Sekibo and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a Certificate of Return to Uchendu.

Consequently the scores in the senate is as follows:

Rivers East – Andrew Uchendu (APC)Rivers West – Osinakachukwu Ideozu (PDP)Rivers South East – Magnus Abe (APC).
